Resurfacing of roads in Somerset West

The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate would like to advise the public of intended roadworks along a number of roads in Somerset West. The work starts today, 12 March 2025, until Friday, 30 May 2025, between 07:00 and 17:00 on weekdays. Weather permitting and provided there are no unforeseen delays.

‘I would like to thank the road users and the Somerset West community at large for their patience and understanding while we are busy with this project. Regular road maintenance is required to ensure the longevity of the City’s road network and to keep Cape Town moving. We are attending to quite a large number of roads concurrently and our team’s intention is to finish this project within the specified timeline,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.

The purpose of this project is to resurface and apply new road markings to the following roads in Somerset West:

Pyracantha Street, Abelia Street, Lobelia Street, Scholtz Road, Hoëveld Road, Rue Road, Montpellier Road, Leerdam Close, Stella Street, Aberdeen Road, Jakaranda Street, Buitenzorg Street, Upper Mountain Road, Hillcrest Road, Batavia Street, Helderzicht Road, Swalle Street, Van der Merwe Road, Caledon Street, Drama Street, New Street, Fagan Street, Orange Street, Coldicott Avenue, Zydenbos Avenue, Voortrekker Road, Bridgewater Street, Spyker Street, Dirkie Uys Road, Oak Street, St James Street, Bright Street, Audas Street, Radebe Street, Stewart Street, Mahanyale Close, Pittosporum Close, Primula Close, Plumbago Close and Kronen Close.

In addition, there may be lane closures during the course of the work and motorists are encouraged to use alternative routes where possible.
